Taiwan Market Afternoon Commentary, March 10, 2010

TAIEX inched up 0.11% to 7779.08 on NT$85.35bn while continuing the recent pattern of tight range trading with light trading volume. Tech (-0.04%) stood still despite accounting for nearly 74% of overall trading as investors digested FEB sales data and company guidance, including any comments that shed light on the labor/component status in China. Asustek (2357 TT, NT$58.10, -0.85%) announced FEB revenues at NT$20.4bn, down 10% MoM and up 53% YoY. Looking ahead, the company said it would launch a new platform in 2Q10 for its new Eee PC series, including versions with Intel Pine Trail CPUs and ION2 platform. Delta Electronics (2308 TT, NT$95.50, -0.21%) reported FEB sales at NT$9.2bn, down 22% MoM and up 18% YoY. Delta acquired a 3.5G color filter plant from AMT for NT$500mn, and reportedly could challenge Prime View International (8069 TT, NT$64.00, -1.99%)¡¦s lead in the e-book space.
