Business Perspective

Looking to 2001, there may be some positive matters, such as the discretionary investment business that was recently approved by SFC, however, future uncertainty creates a challenge. This uncertainty takes many forms: global growth in the IT industry has slowed, new demand from the TMT business is unsure, the global economy is slowing and the relationship between China and Taiwan is by its nature uncertain. National Securities Corporation is conservative about the Taiwan's Stock Market this year. We believe the near-term outlook for Taiwan's stock market is not very encouraging and competition in the securities industry will deepen after Taiwan's entering WTO.
